Limited in quantity, this unique and colorful bird was designed by Oiva Toikka in 2011. The Woodpecker stands tall, towering 10 (25.4 cm) from the tip of its reddish orange plumage down to the bottom of its shimmering base. With a bright blue beak and sandy colored head that leads down to a tawny speckled breast and a pair of black and white striped wings, this birds color scheme is unlike any other Toikka creation. A metallic luster graces the body of the bird, creating a delicate and intricate effect. When light shines through, a soft brown can be detected, but when looked at straight on, the bird appears a gunmetal grey.

With only 200 made in total, this limited edition bird was made especially for the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA (USA), and is exclusive to only a select number of retailers.

As a part of the 2011 collection, the Woodpecker features an innovative and stylish silhouette that can only come from an Oiva Toikka design. The Toikka Woodpeckers are individually mouth-blown by the master glassblowers at iittalas glassworks in Nuutajrvi, Finland. Each handcrafted iittala Toikka Woodpecker carries the etched signature O. Toikka Nuutajrvi Tacoma as well as its individual number out of 200, a mark made to ensure its authenticity.
