More about Birds by Toikka Book"Oiva Toikka (b. 1931) is greatly admired for his Finnish glass art and has been awarded numerous prizes. The artist, who started his career in the 1950s as a designer, became a professor of art in the early 1990s. A designer of utility objects, sets for theatre, ballet and opera as well as printed fabrics is perhaps best known for his collectible artglass series Birds by Toikka. The colorful and playful birds, fine examples of skilled glassblowing, are desired by collectors around the world. Each bird is unique and created by hand at iittala’s glassworks in Nuutajärvi, Finland.
The book Birds by Toikka is a comprehensive handbook for fans of Toikka glass birds. Every Toikka bird is presented with a picture and product information in both Finnish and English. Also included are many Toikka birds produced for private companies and not released to the general public.
