More about iittala Toikka Star of Raquel – 2009 Annual Egg Toikka’s 2009 egg is rich in texture and detail. Oddly enough, the brown, tracery pattern is the result of an accident at the Nuutajarvi glass factory. Workers noticed that dirt from molds was leaving these strange marking on the glass. Toikka, seeing opportunity in this mistake, decided to take advantage. Dirt was placed in spikey molds and then the glass was blown into the mold. The spikey mold produced air bubbles in the glass and when the piece was removed from the mold, the dirt would spread across the bubbles. This egg is truly a unique piece, even among Toikka’s collection. A perfect addition to any glass bird collection, this egg is bound to inspire conversation and compliments.
