Based in the Minneapolis area, we had the opportunity to provide Oiva Toikka with inspiration to design a glass bird that captures the city's unique character. Windswept lines embody Minneapolis' wintry weather while a stroke of green graces the back as an ode to the flowing Mississippi river. Like the fluid nature of water, the exact size, shape and placement of this embellishment varies; this holds true for the entire handcrafted bird, as each is one-of-a-kind.

Iittala chose five influencers from around the world to channel the soul of their city in a collaborative design project called Bird and the City. GlassBirds' Megan Milkowski provided inspiration to Oiva Toikka for the design of the Minneapolis bird. The birds of Oiva Toikka's 2016 collection are individually mouth-blown by the master glassblowers at iittalas glassworks in Finland. Each handcrafted iittala Toikka Minneapolis Bird carries the signature O. Toikka IITTALA Minneapolis Bird and is numbered on its base to ensure authenticity.
